It's time to bring our Panjabi roots back...

Waking up early to attend Panjabi school never came easy to me. I would drag myself out of bed and take the bus, what felt like an endless ride, just to reach my destination only to be greeted by discouraging teachers who judged me right away. Still, there was something about being able to communicate in Panjabi that made all these struggles worth it.

Trust me when I say that I was such an irreverent and uncooperative student - sitting at the back of the class cracking non-sensical jokes, failing to turn in my homework, and always getting lectured about how important this is by the teachers and principals.

For some reason though, I became passionate about Panjabi one day. Passing my O - level exams opened up new possibilities for me - opportunities that were cut short soon enough when I decided it was time for me to teach young minds from one generation after another how important it is for them to embrace their culture and language.

For six years, I had been on this course with SSEF. Soon, It was my time to leave. I wanted to achieve greater things- traveling across continents imparting knowledge about our mother tongue with each class that leaves my presence stronger than ever before. In turn, they give me hope for a brighter future ahead- one where we don't have limitations as far as speaking or understanding this beautiful language goes anymore. Whilst on this beautiful journey, I finally graduated with a degree in Public relations and marketing law.

In 2022, I took a bold step to open Khalsa Academy - an institute where anyone of any race, age, or socio-background can come and learn Panjabi.

My mission is to bring back the lost culture of our people - The only thing I'm striving for is to restore what's lost.

Panjabi or Punjabi? Which one is right?

I personally use Panjabi. Why? Let’s break it down - ਪੰਜਾਬੀ

ਪੰਜ - Panj

ਜਾਬੀ -Jabi

ਪੰਜਾਬੀ = Panjabi

If we look closely at the Tippi (ਟਿੱਪੀ), it indicates nasalization. This pronunciation using nasal, can be used with “”, “” and “”.

If we look at words like (Kambal), they all focus on using nasalization.

The old British spelling “Punjabi” remains in more common general usage than the academically precise “Panjabi.”

Hence, I personally love to use Panjabi instead of Punjabi.

Meet Sharan Kaur - Educator & Founder of Khalsa Academy

I have been in the education industry for nearly 10 years. I have worked with well-established institutions like SSEF, Yen's Academy, Ignium Academy, My First Skool and many more alike. Although these journeys have impacted me positively, I left teaching because I felt like I needed a change. This was not my calling.

After working multiple jobs with low pay, no appreciation or dignity; it took everything inside me to quit those positions.

Since then, I attained a degree in public relations and marketing law at Murdoch University and I am now fully certified in Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) and a certified life coach.

In 2022, I founded Khalsa Academy and this is where I found my calling and my purpose - with only one goal - To Bring Our Panjabi Roots Back.

In addition to founding my academy, I  volunteer for Singapore Khalsa Association - ladies wing committee as well as IRR to provide assistance for migrant workers in Singapore.

From time to time, I organize my own donation drives for the less fortunate people both locally and internationally.

I have also adopted some kids from India to guide them through their education financially and academically.

My Framework for Khalsa Academy

A.I.M Panjabi With Us

Since accessing knowledge is more easily accessible nowadays, everyone faces a similar problem: so many good resources exist but there is only enough time to access a small number of them. Even if you manage to get through each one, how do you choose what's the most valuable and how do you keep up?

The sheer number of options when trying to learn something new can also overwhelm even the most focused individual and leave them starting at their screens with hands shaking as anxiety settles in their stomachs.

As part of our framework, we accumulate the right resources which can be easily accessible from anywhere, at anytime.

Most of us just stop after accumulating knowledge and information and that is not enough.

You've invested so much time and energy to gather the right knowledge but now what?

Too many people have walked away from their collections of knowledge, stopping short of ever implementing those learnings. Why go through all the work just to watch it molder on a shelf and not bring any joy or use to anyone?

Implement! Implement everything you've learned! This is what separates one successful person from another. Whatever ideas or techniques you've gleaned, implement as quickly as possible and share with others if relevant. Make an effort every day (or each week) to do something worthwhile that aligns with your learnings so far.

We produce a range of practices for you to implement what you have learned whilst accumulating knowledge.

The skills you acquire are fleeting. Some might stay with you forever, but most of the time they disappear after awhile. As soon as they start to fade and get rusty, it becomes harder and harder to recall that specific technique. And then you're back to square one; starting over again from scratch on something you've already learned.

Is there a way to regain those lost skills? Yes! By repeating the same action over and over again with intervals timings — practicing what you've already mastered — practice makes perfect! But without the knowledge base from years ago, it's impossible to effectively retain those skills without reviewing it constantly or having a constant reminder on how to execute them properly.

We'll take care of any task related to combat forgetting. Trust us, not having to remember something for the tenth time isn't always a bad thing!
